It was very refreshing to get all my belongings moved into my new residence hall(which is across the street from my old one!) and see my old friends I have not seen all summer!
So, now I'm entering year two of the university scene and I still feel like I'm new to everything at times, but also "Been there, done that" to many things, as well. I've gotten most of my books, attended my classes(maybe missed a couple on accident -- bad idea!) and already met some new friends!
The whole work study thing has not been going well, but I may have a prospect in the near future! I applied to the ID place in Bernard and I'm hoping to get an interview in the next few days! Otherwise... I will have to wait until the next opportunity comes along. Though, I do have a future position in the language lab of Irby Hall! I'm next on the list for French work study students, which is totally awesome! It pays to make friends and know people, especially when trying to get a job! But, of course, we should all know that, right?
Moving on, what can I say as advice so soon in the year? Hmm,... freshmen, make sure you have the meal plan you want before it's too late to change it! You may find a different meal plan suits you more, though I do just fine with 15 meals a week and $30 of DCB(declining cash balence) for the semester! Food is important! Always be sure to have a snack storage as well as something to eat when you're unable to go to the cafetera -- because it will happen sometime! ;) Planning ahead in case of emergency is a great thing especially when it means a meal for you!
Oh, while I'm thinking about it, also: stay well-sanitized! It seems this semester the big 'scare' will be H1N1 (AKA: Swine Flu)! But don't worry too much, it's still just influenza! But do take precautions and be smart, sanitize! Invest in a pocket-size antibactirial bottle to use between classes. You have NO idea how many people touch those doorknobs and handrails! Smartness will keep you safe, but if you do feel like you're getting sick, go to the Health Centre or see your family doctor! No reason to not utilize our fine facilities on campus! No matter where you are, if you're in a school setting, you should stay clean and sanitize often!
Well, I suppose I'll let you all go and save more for next time!
Welcome to UCA, new freshmen! And to the high school readers: look forward to more good news about UCA!
